OXYTOCIN

OXYTOCIN

And so, after weeks and weeks of searching for the right solution to convert distress (negative stress) to eustress (positive stress), I have finally found the answer.

Whenever we experience stress, be it negative or positive stress, our body will release a neurohypophysial hormone, secreted from the posterior pituitary gland in our brain called ' OXYTOCIN'. Oxytocin is traditionally known as the 'Bonding Hormone'. It is usually secreted by the brain during hugging, kissing, childbirth, breastfeeding and orgasm. Some will call it the love hormone. It will make the heart rate beat at a slower pace and prepares the body for a bond.

However, new research has surfaced that Oxytocin is indeed an anti-stress mediator or a natural anti-depressant. It promotes well-being, social interaction, growth and healing. Therefore, the main reason why oxytocin is secreted when we're feeling stressed out is because the body wants us to socialize, to bond, to speak to others in order to cure the stress. It is indeed very interesting how our body reacts to cure itself from stressors.
